They say the best things in life are free. As small business, you are looking for quality products without breaking the bank. When it comes to software applications, a lot of money can be spent without getting much in return.

Over at PC Magazine, Eric Griffith has come up with a list of 173 of the best free software around at the moment. The list is categorised so it makes for easy browsing. Maybe you are using some of them already (I know I am) but you may also find something new and useful.

Have a browse and let me know if you find something you like.

Just a few interesting articles, for the small business, that I found over the weekend

Training your staff is vital if you want your business to succeed. When it comes to using technology, many employees in companies large and small, just do not have the IT skills they need to carry out their job.

Companies should invest in their staff skills if they want to survive and succeed.

The advantage of technology is that we are no longer shackled to the office desk. With the latest generation of mobile phones we can stay in touch with everyone wherever we go. Just about every mobile phone has e-mail and internet capability. As the BBC report their use is on the increase.

So, mobile phones can be used for much more than just making calls. Any small business should be ensuring they are using their capability to the full.

Starting a small business is no easy matter. If you would like some help Business Startup is an event at Olympia, London on the 28-29 November 2008.
